Dove-tailing on a rather depressing work week, the weekend shaped up rather nicely. I drove to Indiana to meet with some fellow writers and we shared a great time writing and brainstorming. Given that my “real” job is going away soon, they encouraged me to start an editing business. That idea is percolating around my head as I type this at 2:27am. By tonight I learned that I’d placed first in 2 of my contest finals, won the Unsinkable Heroine award and placed second in a third. Not a bad way to go! Additionally, I had three full requests. Now all I have to do is finish the book. There’s always a catch, isn’t there?

I learned some interesting marketing tricks this weekend. Two of my fellow writers have produced a book trailer. I’ve heard the term mentioned before but never paid much attention. It’s basically a slide show to music with your controlling premise and overall plot points mixed in. It’s really a good tool to introduce a reader to your story. An animated back cover blurb, in a sense.

I also realized that no matter what’s going on, I’m very fortunate. I have really good friends and more story ideas than I can write at the moment.
